UHC PPO

I asked around at work and it appears that we have a PPO through United Healthcare. My 3 months is not up at my current job so I don't have insurance yet so I'm not sure if it wouldbe okay to call up the insurance company with our group number and ask them if WLS is covered. Will it look bad if I ask could it cause me to los my job? If I find out that it is not covered do any of you suggest getting UHC insurance on my own? Have any of you done that? Will they cover the surgery?

I have UHC and my plan covers it, but you have to have the qualifications.  Each plan is different.

Just call them and ask. They don't know who you are!

Just call and ask! You cannot lose your job for asking, plus your job will never know that you called the insurer! You will need a policy and or group number though to get access to your speific company's coverage. Some UHC policies have an exclusion, it's up to the employer. Use the CPT code 43644 (RNY) when you speak with the customer service rep. Once they plug it in, they will be able to let you know if it's covered or not. Good luck! bonnie 264/155
