U. H. C. and WLS exclusion.

Hi, I'm Mary Ann.  I live in North Carolina and have UHC insurance.  I called to see if WLS could be an option for me and was told that all "obesity help" was excluded from our plan.   I was wondering if there could be another avenue to explore to get  surgery covered, but classified under something else (if that makes sense) ie: pre diabetes or something.  I'm 29 years old, have PCOS and am insullin resistant.  I finally got up the courage to check into the surgery route and now feel crushed that it isn't an option for me.   Any advice appreciated.

Well, I called again this morning and was told our plan doesn't cover anything weight related, no surgeries, no diets, no fitness centers, no nutritionists...nothing.   Ah, well.. just my luck.

We actually have the "choice plus" plan.   Seems everything is covered except for what I need.

Hi Maryann-I too have UHC "Choice Plus" and it sucks!  I have several co-morbidities but they still would not pay for it.  But then they talk about their wellness approuch to health care.  Yea right.  So now I am a private pay for he VSG. If you get anywhere with them let me know.  I sure didn't. Carole

Thanks for taking the time to reply.  I haven't been able to get anywhere with UHC.  I'm backed into a corner with them and no where to go.  My husband's employer didn't add the bariatric/weight related package to the plan, so I'm just out.   I don't know what to do now.  I'm trying to get a job at Starbucks for the insurance..we'll see how that goes.
