I am going to be getting Unite Healthcare through my work March 1st. I'm wondering if I should wait until I have the insurance for a while before I start asking if I can get WLS or it doesn;t matter and i can start the process the minute I get it? Also I am one of those people that never go to the doctor... I mean NEVER no physical every year no I have a cold NOTHING! I go for my yearly women's thing and thats it. So without much medical history what should I do?

I got my weight history from my OB/GYN and my PCP because my information was not complete for the PCP.  I hope that works.   Not all policies are the same so you may want to find out that information before going through everything else.

Have you carried health insurance for a full year (no lapses) prior to getting UHC? If not, you may have to wait out the pre-existing clause.  Are you sure that your particular plan covers WLS? My husband has UHC through the state but they don't cover it even though other UHC plans do.  Something to think about ... Best of luck,  Cathie

Now my curiosity has been peaked. I was on BC/BS for a couple years and due to other issues i procrastinated on the WLS. I get switched to UHC now (no insurance lap). Am I going to have to wait a year for the surgery??? I had called UHC and they said it was covered as long as my BMI was over 35. Then I read all these nightmare UHC posts and am really confused and nervous. The guy at UHC didn't seem to be too with it.

pre-existing only applies if there is a lapse in insurance coverage more than 63 days, not a year.

ouch that sucks cause it has been 63 days, do they really think that I would have gained all this weight though in 63 days? isn't that kind nuts?

I have UHC and nothing is covered :(  I was wondering if I could cancel UHC through my work and just buy Atena.
