Hi im new in here. i went to my pcp today for a referral for a WLS consult with a surgeon. my doctor said he didnt think i needed to do that yet and i was too young and not fat enough blah blah. i said im dead serious about this. so he wrote it but he was like they probebly wont approve you.. so i was like well then. i dont know and he said what you'll gain more weight to be approved? ugh i dont think he takes me serious but i dont know if i can be taken serious.. i have a bmi of 36.5 and am 27.9 years old and massively depressed, im sure he just sees me as fat and lazy.  my question is.. i am going to go ahead and call the surgeon anyway and try to make an appointment, can i lie about my height for one inch? i am 5'11 but if i lie and say im  5'10 it makes my bmi 37 and thats better than 36. my only co-morbid is depression and a bunch of stupid things like - heavy snoring, joint pain , foot pain, family history of high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, breast cancer that i know i will get if i stay fat.. i was so nervous to get the referral and now i got it im so sad that i wont be able to get this cuz i picked a lame pcp. grrrrrrrrrr

Hello! I wouldn't lie, even though it sounds harmless.  I agree that you should measure your actual height on a hard surface floor without shoes. If you get a surgical consult that's great.  I have been working for 3 months just to get a consult.  This is because of insurance requirements. The national institutes for health has certain criteria you must meet to qualify for WLS in general.  I can't come up with the exact figures off the top of my head but you should look those up.  I'm pretty sure my surgeon won't see anyone who does not meet the NIH criteria.  You may be on the border.   I know what it's like to be sooo depressed about your weight.  Keep researching and find a new PCP if you need to.  I have thought about that route too.  Then my PCP seemed to come around a little and things are looking up. Best wishes, Here is the link for criteria:http://www.bariatricsurgerypittsburgh.com/started/criteria.html ...BMI 35-39.9 with serious health related issues....
