BCBSIL....Approved!!
You may have seen my posts a few weeks ago about getting 2 denial letters from BCBSIL...well, I received notice today that I got approved in the 1st appeal!! I knew that I had met the requirements of the policy, and truly believed that I would get approved some day, but it's still generated a roller coaster of emotions for me the last few weeks. All I can say to those who have been denied, is to stick with it. They are counting on you walking away, but don't do it!! Make sure you know what your insurance policy says, do it, and document everything!!! Thanks to all of you for posting such great advice that really helped me along the way. I can't wait to be a loser!
Congrats!!!! I was rcently denied by them for not having the 5 yr. history. I am soo bummed. i am goig to appeal. But i am so scared because the rep told me i only have one appeal.i don't know if i should have a lawyer appeal or the surgeon. I was told that an "independent paryy" will reveiw my appeal. i don't get that 1 appeal but i don't want to call back i'll let the insur. coordinator do it. Although it seems that i know more than she does. she was telling me that she appealed my decision but she was doing this based on a letter that i was told to disregard. I hope i get approved too! you will be a loser soon. if you have any advice let me know.
Congrats to you! You must be having better luck with them than I did. I was denied, for not participating in a very low calorie diet, which was evidenced by my lack of weight loss. I lost 5 pounds by the end off the 6 months. I did follow the diet the dietician gave to me which was 1200 calories. I was told that is considered a very low calorie diet for my weight. So along the way they asked for things I made sure they got what ever it was they asked for. They still found a way to deny me, I have 3 appeals, but the ins coordinator told me we will wait until I lose 20 pounds. I was told by her that is what BCBSIL is looking for. Funny it is not anywhere in there policy that says you have to lose a certain amount of weight, isn't it? Good Luck to all of you out there fighting their ins companies.
Renee - I agree...their policy does not say that you have to lose a certain amount of weight. I only lost 10 pounds during the 6 months. I'm sure they look at it to try to weed out people who are not committed though. If you truly believe that you have followed their policy and have sent documentation of everything they require (all 5 steps of the 6 month diet, and the 5 year history), then tell them to send it to the 1st appeal process. I found out that during the initial review process, they have different people reviewing your file if you send things in separately. Unless it goes to appeal, they don't look at everything you have submitted at the same time. In the meantime, do whatever you can to get another 5 lbs off or so, and submit your weight again so that they know you are continuing the process. Please don't give up!! That's what they want. You deserve this as much as anyone else.
