Insurance covers lapband but the job doesn't

My Daughter in law has PCOS with insulin resistance. She has tried to lose weight with no success. It is so discouraging to her and my son. They have looked into Lapband for her and found out that BCBS of GA covers it but ..his job doesnt. He talked to the HR person about get the rider/waiver thing off for next year. She said there should not be a problem (she has a daughter also with PCOS). So does anyone know how long it takes to get the waiver/rider off so the insurance will cover it? Is there a grace period you have to wait. If it doesnt get off by the first of the year will the waiver stay on til the next sign up period or is it immediately.  BTW what does the HR person do to get the waiver off? Thanks for all your help
