Thank god you posted it and not me.  THE ASBS now the ASMBS hires the SRC to review centers for the COE designation while the SRC makes money doing so. Smaller clinics cannot make the numbers but ASBS and SRC will have you believe they can. THe surgical review corp is made up of people who were with the ASBS and I guess this is their retirement system.   Could you imagine the AMerican Cardiologists saying you have to go to one doctor or another?  And in some states there are only like 1 or 2 centers.  AND SRC developed a program to track outcome which they sell to the COEs. So, you want to dos omething.  Write ASBS and SRC and your congress person and tell them to cut the crap and make the surgery available to everyone. If your doctor had 5 in 100 deaths would you go. No.  But SRC says they need to keep patient safety, yet if you pay, you're in like flin. AND the American College of Surgeons told them NOT to do it, but they did it anyway. So there, I said my piece.  But you're going to have to write your politicians to get things changed. Oh yea, and the head of the Obesity Action Coallition, now sits on the Board of the SBS "Charity: which runs the walk from Obesity.  Which means, OAC can now never disagree with anything the ASBS does, so, we're screwed.  You tell me where the conflict of interest lies, and who is going to fight for your rights or theirs.  That's where OAC gets their funding from the ASBS. COnflict...... you tell me.  And then tell me whose side am I on, yours or theirs.

If you need more info on this you should look up Dr. Peters in PA or Dr.Kamelguard.  They presented the other side and were outcast Since the San Fran ASBS meeting when I was coming off as Vice Chair of Corporate Council, they did two things, 1. establish an nomination committee so I could not be voted back on, and 2. pushed this COE thing and hoped that it would carry on the the private carriers. Can you imagine private carriers this, and having one or two clinics in one state. THey cut a deal with medicare to cover the three surgeries if theyre done at COE's. BUT, revisions will be covered by medicare and can be done anywhere AND WORSE, pays slow and little so most docs I know are dropping medicare, which made this whole thing for nothing.  If you look up the SRC surgical review corp and the ASBS you'll find a stong financial connection, especially now with this program that SRC, pories and pratt SELL.  SRC was set up to review offices, not SELL SOFTWARE. This was from Prories pushing a new surgery

"It is important to note that DJB surgery is still in the early experimental phase and should be done only with:

  1. clearly defined protocols,
  2. IRB approval, and
  3. registration of the study with SRC."

Since when has anyone given Walter and/or the SRC the oversight authority for all new surgical research?

Notice the registration with the SRC.      The only way to stop this is to tell your surgeons, you want them out of the COE program, write ASBS and OAC and SRC, and write your POLITICIANS.  Otherwise we dont compaint and that's that.
