Aetna--Multidisciplinary Surgical Approach
hello everyone! I need a bit of advice--I'm following the 3 month "multidisciplinary" approach and a few of the protocols are
1. meeting with dietician/nutritionist
2. having supervised exercise
3. behavior modification
Question is who administers the behavior modificiation? I'm assuming it would be the dietician who it teaching me how to eat healthy again and make better decisions, correct?
If anyone has any other opinions or comments, please feel free to let me know!
Thanks in advance!
Yes, I think that the dietician would meet the requirements. I just got approved by Aetna after completing the multidisciplinary program. I met with a physician (employed by the surgeon for the purpose of doing these insurance-required programs) three times. I met with their on-staff nutritionist, and I met with a therapist. That was obviously enough because they approved it. The physician documented what exercise I was doing as well as what I was eating (she had me keep a journal), the nutritionist discussed what foods I would need to eat and what vitamins to take, etc. Both the nutritionist and the physician discussed things like portion-sizes and protein foods. And the therapist just discussed with me the reasons for seeking wls, my goals, etc.

Hello! I don't have Aetna, I have BCBSIL PPO. However, I've recently had an issue with BCBS regarding documentation of the behavior modification they require. I met with an APN and dietitian each month who documented what I was eating, my physical activity, and goals at each visit. However, BCBS is looking for specific statements in their documentation that I was following directions / compliance. I would ask your dietitian, MD, APN or whoever you are meeting with to document that you are following their directions at each visit. Also, keep your own food journals and exercise records and submit them to the dieitian, etc.. each time you go to be placed in your medical record that show you are meeting your goals and modifying your behavior. Good luck!!
