BCBS of NC (State Employees plan) approved in 3 days

I got the call today that  BCBS of NC (the state employee plan) approved me for surgery on Oct. 19th.  I think the paperwork was sent to them on Monday of this week.  Verbal approval and now have written approval today. 

Congratulations! I'm very happy that everything went well for you.  I'm enrolled in the very same plan so it makes me feel better also!  What type of documentation did you need in regards to the five year weight history?  I'm NOT a "doctor" person and my comorbities (Diabetes and Hypertension) have both been diaganosed within the last two years.  I have records documenting obesity from 2000,2001,2004,2005,and early 2007.  I hope that will be enough!

Thanks, I had records from the past 5 years.  I actually went to medical records and got my entire medical record (about 3 inches of paper) and went through it to document my weight and any diet attempts that was in the record.  I had taken fenphen on two different years, it worked great for me, but the weight always came back.  I was afraid that since that was the only doctor supervised diet I had ever done, BC would make me do a phy supervised diet, but they didnt. I have high BP and pain in legs/feet/knees and I am beginning to develop diabetes so I guess that was enough for them.  I think every one is anxious about the insurance approval.   Good luck and if I can help, let me know.  Alice

WOW! That's great! You give me hope. I have fepblue and my letter of medical necessity should be ready tomorrow from my pcp. Once that happens my surgeons office will send it off and the waiting game begins. I can only pray for a 3 day POSITIVE turn around, but I will definately settle for just a POSITIVE turn around (approval). Again congratulations!!! And good luck on your weight loss journey.
