I am in the beginning process for lap rny. I have gone to the seminar, had my first consult with the doctor, and next week I will have all my pre-op tests, psych consult, and dietician appt. I've done all my insurance requirements, 5 years of mo bmi, 6 month medically supervised diet, etc. So basically I'm rearing to go!

My question is this...my company just announced yesterday that they are switching insurance companies effective 11/1. I called and they said the new company does cover rny but couldn't tell me anything else about specific requirements, et****il I have my new insurance card 11/1. The new company is Independence Administrators, I've never even heard of them! (Used to be Greatwest) Should I try to get it approved before the change or should I wait to submit it 11/1 and hope its covered. I know its just a few weeks but that seems like forever when I've been wanting this for so long. Does anyone know anything about IA? Thanks in advance for any help!

I never heard of that new insurance company and I work for Great-West and we are still Great-West.  My first thought was if your approved now get it done now before you switch insurance companies, but then my thought is  if your second carrier does not cover it, then they will not cover your follow ups.  I would call IA and ask them for your benefits for bariatric surgery and the requirements.  Good luck.
