My surgeon's office is trying to rip me off!
I ALSO HAVE UHC AND MY HUSBAND HAD EMERGENCY SURGERY LAST YEAR, WHEN I GOT THE BILLS I KNEW WE WERE BEING TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF. I CONTACTED THE HOSPITAL AND THEY DIDN'T WANT TO FIX THE BILL SO I CONTACTED UHC AND THEY HANDLED EVERYTHING FOR ME. SENT OUT LETTERS STATING EXACTLY WHAT WE OWED AND THAT WERE WE NOT TO BE BILLED A PENNY MORE. TRY CONTACTING UHC THEY HAVE ALWAYS BEEN VERY HELPFUL TO ME. EXPLAIN YOUR SITUATION AND LET THEM SPEAK ON YOUR BEHALF. HOPE THIS HELPS! JUDY

Thanks for sharing the tips with the poster.
The main issue that the poster is experiencing is because she chose to simultaneously work with an in-network and out-of-network doctor. When working with an out-of-network doctor, other than paying usual and customary charges, the insurance company will have no say in what the doctor balance bills the patient. Thus, her insurance company has paid all that it is going to pay and will not pay a dime more. Anything else that goes on will be between the poster and the questionable billing practices that the surgeon's office is using.
Ultimately, she ended up with a shady office, and the office is trying to rip her off, which is shameful but common!
