Charge for NUT class

I have not posted on this forum before, but just wondering if anyone has experience with this and any suggestions as to whether or not I should continue fighting. In June, I went to an information session & the second part of it was a nutrition class.  In all of my paperwork from this bariatric center, there is only a mention of a "NOMINAL FEE" for the NUT portion, but nowhere does it actually list the cost.

At the time, unbeknownst to me, our insurance exlcudes WLS and any other weight loss classes, nutrition classes, etc. (how back-asswards is that? considering you'd think the insurance cos. would want to get you healthy?! but I digress...)  So, I end up with a bill last month for $76.65.  Might not seem like a big deal, but I did not expect it. So, I started asking what nominal meant to various people - and most of them said $5 or $10.  Certainly not $75. I called the bariatric clinic and they told me that in the grand scheme of medical visits, this is cheap and considered nominal. She may be right, but I don't have a whole lot of experience with medical bills and costs, so I wouldn't have known this. Then I called the billing department and they referred me to Patient Representatives.  All that lady said was "I can pass along your comments to the clinic director in the hopes the dietician's revise their letter and state the cost". My question is - do I shut up and pay the bill, or do I file a complaint with the MN Attorney General with my backup attached where none of the correspondence from the bariatric clinic states the fee?  I am not the kind of person to keep fighting or file complaints, but something deep inside me is saying "keep fighting"...not to try and get the fee reduced but more because I have a huge heart ofr others and I hope this doesn't happen to some other person! Any advice is appreciated, OH is a great website - Thank You In Advance for any reply!

not to be the bad guy but yes in the grand scheme of WLS it is not alot of money. as someone who makes very little money i do agree that to me its alot of money. in hindsight, perhaps you shouldve asked what the "nominal fee" was. sounds like they dont give a specified amount because it varies or they make it up as they go. For now i just suggest sending a check for a small portion say $5 or $10 and keep paying until its settled or you decide what to do. That way you will not be sent to collections for non-payment. Good Luck

I would do as the previous poster suggests.  When I made my appointment with the NUT the receptionist asked what insurance I had and suggested I call to make sure that it was covered and actually told me that total for the inital three visits would be $75.  I'm here in RI. Good luck!
