My Aetna plan is a little different from the norm - I have a "self funded plan" and my employer is responsible for answering my appeal.
I've heard great things about Aetna and you'll probably have an easy time of it. My problems aren't with Aetna, they're with my employer. Aetna has been wonderful!
Good luck

I called Aetna directly to see if it was covered and then my surgeon knew all the requirements. I would suggest calling them and asking them. I have never had a problem when I called with a question. My surgeon also said that they are the second best at approvals.

I am not "feeling the love" for Aetna as they are putting me through the ringer. My appeal after my denial was sent in last Friday. If you can work with your surgeon's office staff (they really know the insurance stuff), memorize that medical bullentin (and follow it exactly) and practice patience you will probably get approved unless your policy specifically excluded weight loss surgery. My experience with Aetna is that they seem to try to find a reason to deny anything (not just weight loss surgery) and then you have to fight with them about it.
