I have posted on a similar subject a couple of times but have not had good luck.  My insurance company (UHC) will not cover b/c of my employer's plan but I am trying to see if  "anyone out there" has specifically purchashed an ins. policy just to cover surgery and if so, any help for me?  I need to know of an exact company and procedure on how to proceed.  PLEASE  throw any advice you may have my way.  Thanks so much! Hey Amy Sorry to hear about the problems you're encountering.   If you go to www.lapband.com there is a section on self pay with an application for borrowing the funds, and varies avenues about obtaining other coverage, but I don't know about the insurance policy that offer just the surgery coverage.....Wish you luck in your journey. you could also try Vocational rehab if they have that in your area.

My experience - 1) They will automatically deny coverage for anyone with a high BMI and 2) They all exclude WLS period, anyway. I've looked high and low, and individual coverage will not cover it. I was told by one guy on the phone that it would be insane for them to offer it because people would buy the plan, have the surgery, then drop the plan costing the insurers thousands, if not millions. Insurance companies aren't in the game of promoting health, they are in the game to make a profit.
