Hi,
I am considering taking a new position about a month after my surgery...my coverage would end on the last day of that month (if i'm reading my benefits correctly).
Is it possible that insurance would turn around and not pay because i'm leaving this position or would they then charge me?
How long after the surgery should I wait?
My surgery is 9/27. the new job would start at the end of october.
The key to this is the dates of service. If you have any dr appt. or services prior to the last day, the insurance company if I am correct will pay because you were an active participant of the company's plan. Just make sure to keep a copy of your plan at your former employer, and any billings, statements of benefits, etc. Just to CYA.
It might depend if you take any disibility. The insurance company might not cause a problem, but your employer might ask for you to reemburse them. It will depend on the size of the company. I remember when I took maternity leave last year, that was something I considered. As long as you stay for 90 days you're not responisble for reimbursing them. Just something for you to look at.
