I'm pretty new to researching Lap Band and heard pretty good results getting the procedure covered through Carefirst BC/BS of Maryland. Late one night I decided to contact the company to see what they had to say after I could not get any information from my HR rep. They told me that the procedure was not covered under my plan. I was pretty bumbed out by this response but undeterred. I'm getting banded! I think that is the attitude you have to have with this. Anyway, I keep referenced this sites ins. by state and saw that others with my ins. have gotten approved. Is the ins. company telling me no just a deterrent and not the truth? OR Should I not even waste my time trying to get approved with this insurance. Any advice would be helpful.

notfadeaway, It is possible that your company did not purchase this part, due to expense.  It is best to go back to your employer and ask for benefits coverage/exclusions.  This will tell you what is covered and not covered.  For company benefits to cover WLS, they have to purchase a rider and they are expensive.  Policies vary from company to company, so if some one else has the same insurance, they have a different policy.  I hope this helps you in some way.   In my case, my insurance company does not cover the Lap Band but they cover RNY.
