I called my insurance company today to find out the specifics of my plan. I was told that they only pay 50% after the deductible. I thought that most companies pay 100-80% (if they pay anything at all), or is it just me thinking crazy. I can't afford to pay 50%. What am I to do?

Do you have a yearly max?  For instance, my deductable is 500, and then they pay 80%.. however after 1500 out of my pocket, the max kicks in and then they pay the rest no matter how much.  Do you have a year out of pocket max? ~Kristi

Well Kristi, if I remembering correctly, the ins said I would have a $10,000 max. Now I could be wrong. Because after I heard him say 50% I kind of blanked out for minute. Thats all I  heard. I will call them again and get someone else, maybe the agent yesterday didn't know what he was saying.

You know Paul that may well be the case. Now if that is the case, is there something I can do to get them increase the amount they pay?

Could it be that your provider is out of network? Sounds like an out of network co-insurance. Just food for thought. Good Luck

West thanks for the reply but that plan has nothing to do with the provider. Its the coverage plan based on obesity surgery in general. When I first asked about whether or not they cover obesity surgery, thats what they told me. The surgeon that I'm looking into is in network. I have to pay $200 for the deductible then the company covers 50% of the surgery, up to a max of $10k annually. I just don't know what to do at this point. I really couldn't afford to pay 50% right now. When I go to the info seminar I'll ask about a payment plan.
