Hello everyone. My name is Amber and I am on here everyday, but I mostly just observe.  I have medi-cal and I am wondering how hard it is to get approved and what the requirements are?  Like what kind of bmi do you have to have? Is there a medically supervised diet required?  Stuff like that.  I so badly want WLS.  It just seems out of reach. Grrr...very depressing!  Also, can someone tell me themselves or tell me where I can find steps I need to take in attempt to getting approved for WLS?  Thank you all in advance for your responses.  I appreciate it.

Hi Amber!  I hope you are well You are off to great start! The first thing to do would be talk to your insurance company. See if they have any exclusions about WLS. If not, ask them what are the requirements( like BMI, down payments, diets, in network providers, health issues , ect...). What surgerys are covered. Do they have a limit on how much they pay for. Will they pay for lab appointments, psyc appointments, ect...   Then go see your Dr. ask him if the surgery would be an option for you. You may need a referal from him/her to see a surgeon. Once you see a surgeon, you will discuss what surgerys he performs, his crudentials, what are the advantages/disadvantages of surgery, what surgery would be right for you. The surgeons office generally does all the paperwork for you (most do) , they send all that in to the insurance company.  I hope this helps you. GL with your journey
