Blue Cross of California PPO help

Hi everyone, I am trying to figure out the best way to pay for my Lap-band. I'm getting conflicting information from doctors, and I don't know what to expect money-wise. I have Blue Cross of Calif Basic PPO. Open enrollment is next month, so I can easily change to one of the other PPO plans. My question: is there anyone out here who has this insurance? If so, which PPO plan do you have and how much was the entire thing out of pocket? I know I have to see a psyc, and nutritionist, and then there are lots of bills related to the surgery itself. A doctor I met with told me my out of pocket would be close to $17K (coincidentially, his cash price). But I just don't buy that. I can go to Mexico and get it done for $8K, but I have the insurance and would like to use it if possible, since it means I'll have a doctor nearby for follow-ups (I'm in Los Angeles). Any help would be appreciated! Thanks! Sharon

I paid 15k for mine a year ago.  Try to submit through your insurance and see what happens.  Good luck.

Sharon, I have Blue Cross of CA PPO and had lap band surgery a couple of weeks ago.  My psyche eval was $200, the nutritionist was $275.  BC paid about $130 for the psyche, $0 for the nutritionist and my hospital bill was about $20K.  My portion is about $4K. Hope this helps you.
