TriWest
So, I'm REALLY nervous. I've already been approved by Dr. Vierra, but I'm fearful about TriWest approving me. Heard lots of experiences but anyone have any new imput on experience particularly with TriWest (California area)? My pre-surgery appointment is on Wednesday. This is the day Dr. Vierra is supposed to set my surgery date (ideally).
Hi Laurien - welcome to the board. I have triwest and did get approved for the RNY within one week after my RNY doctor submitted the request. I decided to go with the lapband instead and Triwest does not cover that, unless it is at a MTF. I can not located one in northern California that does the surgery, so I am using my job insurance. Good Luck.
Laurien,
Tricare/TriWest is very easy to get approved as long as you meet their weight requirements. They don't go by BMI like most insurances do. They go buy ideal body weight, having to be 100lbs over your IBW if you had at least one co-morbidity, or 200% of your IDW if you don't have a co-morbidity.
I didn't have a co-morb, and I was barely over the 200% and was approved for surgery within 48 hours. I don't think you'll have any problems getting approved!!
Hey, have you seen the military forum here? http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/military/posts.html
There are a couple of threads about how long Tricare takes to approve, just to give you more examples.
Good luck!!!
