Anthem BCBS

hi! i'm just getting started on this journey. i have an apt sept 14th with the surgeon for consultation. i was wondering if anyone out there who's had the surgery has Anthem BCBS (i'm in NC) and can tell me anything that will help me with the insurance process. thanks!

If you call the insurance company, they should be able to tell you what the requirements or criteria are. I know I hae seen others post about this comapny, but I am not familiar with them.  Most insurance companies require you to have a BMI of 40 or more or 35 with comorbidities (high blood pressure, diabetes, etc).  Most require some sort of proof of a supervised diet, some 6 months, some a year long.  Some require you do this right before asking for preapproval, some say it could be as long as 5 years ago. Many want you to prove you have been obese for at least 5 years.  Most also require you to see a dietician and have a psyc evaluation.  Insurance companies are all different though, so I would call.  I would think they will tell you what they need.  Mine did.
