I have BCBS of RI and was wondering if anyone had information about their process.  I have a BMI of 41, Sleep Apnea and Gerd.  I just want to know what to expect. Thank you

Most insurance companies and espically BC/BS (although there are about 2100 different policies) seem to want a physician supervised 6 month diet, along with psych eval, and nutritional eval.  If you call the customer service department they should be able to tell you what the medical coverage policy is.  I went so far as to have them mail me a copy and found the medical coverage policies on their website (I looked at the BC/BS RI plan, but it requires you to log in).  I did attend the surgeons' seminar prior, but after that I focused on getting the 6 month diet done (it can be time consuming and cumbersom jumping thier hoops), the nutritional eval was hand in hand with my PCP, and then the pshych eval at 5 months.  I made my appointment with Dr Anthone (surgeon) a few days after my last PCP visit and then took all of my documentation to that surgical consult.  His office will be submitting my packet today or tomorrow and hopefully I will be on my way.  I went through the medical policy and double triple checked that I had all of my i's dotted and t's crossed so I am hopeful for approval.  If you need more info please feel free to PM me, I will pass on any info that may be helpful.  Good luck!
