Aetna Insurance
Anyone have Aetna insurance? What are their guidelines regarding WLS? My company is changing insurances next year to become effective on January 1,2008. I wont finish with my 6 month supv diet until Dec 3rd, If I can get my approval and date before the 1st of Jan then I will be ok, but I don't think that will happen especially with Christmas during that time... So anyone who had experience with Aetna please let me know how your time of approval went and what they were looking for during the process? Did you have to lose 10% of weight? Any and all replies are appreciated...

I really want to but the hospital in my city is ending parnership with BCBC as of October 31st and I know I wont be approved by then... The next closest hospital that does the surgery is about 45 min to hour drive... And unfortunately I dont think I will be able to make that drive... So Im just trying to keep my options open... I hope I can just stick with what I have for surgery and then just worry about the rest later, but I dont think that is going to be possible...

Hi! The Aetna coverage would really be based on your ins policy, Is it self-funded, is there an exclusion etc. If you want to look at their standard coverage policy, you could access Clinical Policy Bulletins on their website. The one for Obesity surgery is #0157. I just googled it Aetna clinical policy bulletins. Can you tell I used to work for them? Ha Ha. They wouldn't even cover me but that was in 97. I'm just starting the process with BCBS FEP
