Insurance after WLS???
I am also interested in this question. At this point I have to work so that I can have insurance. I pay a ridiculous amount ($450 for just me!). I have been denied insurance by everyone I have tried to get ins thru-due to my weight. So now I am stuck working a job for just the insurance-I don't get a paycheck-just insurance. I was hoping once I get the lap band and I lose weight I would be able to get other ins and quit my job and just do our business.
I don't know if it is true or not, but I read on this board before that they are putting a 5 year "exclusion" on plans and you would not be able to get insured for 5 years. I don't know if that is insured at all, or just covering the wls part. I need to find out also. I also know that it makes a difference if you are looking for individual insurance or if it is a group coverage. Please let me know what you find out. Insurance makes me IRRATE~they won't cover me because I'm fat, so I do something about it, and then they may not cover me for 5 years! What am I supposed to do?
Keep me posted. I hope we can find some answers!
Yes, you will have a very hard time finding insurance to cover you after surgery. The only way I can get insurance is through a group plan that an employeer offered. My husbands last job however, wanted us to pay approximately 25% of his net income every week for insurance - NOT GONNA HAPPEN!!!
I do have a different way through a discount plan though. You can PM me and i'll give you some information.

I am waiting for my surgery date, but this topic scares me. I'm currently on a group plan and think I might change employers in 1-2 years -- I would definitely go to another group plan. Will I be covered if I go from group plan to group plan? Or is the issue only when you are dealing with privately purchased insurance?
