What kind of person is the insurance company most likely to approve surgery for?

Depends on the insurance co., I know. But if some approved folks could post here what class they fell into and the name of their insurance company, that's be great. Do they prefer.... 1) someone who has been thin and healthy all of their life and just blew up in recent years because of having a baby or whatever 2) someone who has been yo-yoing up and down all their life or 3) someone who has been fat all of their life Does it matter? Shouldn't. But just wondering. Your thoughts?

In my opinion number 2) someone who has been yo-yoing up and down all their life They seem to like someone who is able to lose but unable to maintain. It really shouldn't matter tho. Kim

I don't think that they can be preferential about whether you have been any of these types.  They have to go by the guidelines in their policy.  I have BCBS of IL and their guidelines state that you have to have a medical history of at least five years of morbid obesity.  To provide that I just sent in a copy of medical records that showed a weigh-in in 2000 that would put my BMI at 41.  I just got my approval yesterday.  They have no idea if I was overweight prior to that, because it was not provided to them.

It depends on the insurance company, but generally, I would say it's someone who just can't keep the weight off. I have the problem, that I can't GET the weight off now; my metabolism has slowed WAAAAAAAAY down. I look at a cookie and gain 5 lbs. IMO, I think they'd deny everyone right out of the gate if they could and make them fight for it.
