Hi, everyone I’m starting the process of wls. I just had a few questions I have Cigna, from reading other posts, I can see that you have to do a post op diet of 3-6months. My question is even if you have co-obesities do you still have to do some sort of pre op diet with any type of insurance? Is the post op diet the standard procedure with most insurance companies now?  Are there anyways of getting around it for example showing ..pictures...records of obesity etc.  Thanks, Kimberly

I have Cigna also and unfortunately the 6 month diet is the norm for this insurance and most insurance companies these days.. I am in month 2 of my 6 month diet.  I have completed all my pre op testing so once Im done with my diet I can just submit to insurance... I didnt even want to submit without it, just to be denied. Hope this helps, if you have any other questions please ask...

Congrats on your decision.  The pre op diet has been pretty standard and not something "new."  Almost all insuraces require it.  Every insurance company has thier own set of guidelines.  I know its a bummer but be greatful.  There are thousands who cant even get the surgery so the 6 month is nothing comparitively speaking.  THere is no way around it.  THe hospitals also like it.  Those who try to skirt around it tend to be a "red flag"  for doctors and insurance companies so just go with it and best of wishes.
