Has anyone ever purchased individual insurance to cover wls??

My BCBS of SC does not cover WLS.  I was calling around today to see if I could find an insurance company that offers individual plan that would cover WLS.  Well, they all said I am above the weight limit for my height to even get a policy with them.  I was wondering if anyone has ever found a policy that you can purchase that will cover it.  Or if anyone has any suggestions to where I should start.  I already called BCBS and E-health insurance (mostinsurance.com) Thanks~Rachel

wow - im surprised- i contacted e-insurance and they could cover me with GHI allianc e for $415 a month. but i know for a fact that ghi requires 6 months supervised weight loss. im still appealing my insurance and my job.

Is that exactly what it's called e-insurance...  I'm gonna try again today becuz I'm not giving up. thanks for the info.

That's the exact plan I purchased and was approved about 2 weeks ago. (I did have to do a 6 month diet) I had a plan with Anthem BC/BS that also had an exclusion. I think GHI only covers NY though. There is hope out there, keep looking!!!

Amanda - if you are thinking about that GHI plan if things don't work out with your current insurance - I'd start the 6 month diet NOW, so you'll be that much closer if you do have to buy the GHI plan. Hell, it could take close to 6 months to appeal!! I started my 6 month diet about 3 months before I purchased the GHI plan - it's just a monthly visit to your PCP. It's really not even 6 months, it's only 5 because your first visit counts.
