Hey. I just have a quick question. I have tricare standard and theres a few things im curious about. My surgeons office sent out the paperwork on friday so im just waiting on an approval. ive heard a million different things about tricare.. theyre super fast.. theyre slow.. they dont do pre approval with standard. Im just wondering what some other peoples experience is with the wait time for approval. I know cases are different but im curious. I heard from someone somewhere that the usual wait time for approval is 5 days. also, since its 80/20 coverage am i going to have to pay like $6000 or just the $1000 total deductible thingy for the year? im so confuzzled!! thanks!! mandy

Mandy, i have Tricare Prime, so I can't help you on the deductables and stuff. But i did want to tell you that I got my approval within 48hrs. I checked online under my account. Though I have heard too that there is no pre-approval for standard. Of course the weekends don't count towards the time, but you could call Tuesday and see what is up. Good luck on your WLS journey!!

Hi Mandy- Congrats on getting started on the journey! I havd Tricare standard and my experience was that tricare was ALOT easier than I expected.  My doc's office did the pre-approval and sent nothing to Tricare until after the surgery was completed.  So, as soon as I provided the doc's office with documentation of my comordities (sp) they scheduled my surgery date. It took about 5 weeks from seminar date to surgery date. After surgery, Tricare paid everything except $700 surgeon's program fees, $50.00 psy consult and $150 deductible, plus some minor stuff.  All in all it was about $1,000 out of pocket. I had open RNY and was in the hospital for 2 days (released the morning of the 3rd day). Again...I had NO problems with Tricare Standard and had a really good experience. Good luck to you!
