medicare does'nt pay for fills anymore.
Hi, I don't have an answer for you but have a similar problem. I had lapband 4/23 with a low BMI 38. Have lost 17 lbs & now my BMI is 33. When I went for my 2nd fill, insurance did not pay cause I am no longer considered morbidly obese. ( Under 35 BMI). But I still have my diabetes & high cholesterol. So we share the same problem. My bill from the surgeon was $300 including office visit. I paid the $20 office call, thinking BCBS would cover the rest. First fill surgeon did for free. I had no idea of this action & wasn't informed of it b-4 surgery. Is this insurances way of saying I have to loose the rest on my own & its now like cosmetic surgery ?? Anyone else out there share our problem ? I still have 60 lbs to loose. Please help or respond some action I can take. Surgeons office is working with the insurance company to get paid. Its been 9 days & haven't received any phone call or bill. I hope I don't have a useless band in me for life.
Thanks Pam
Hi Pam i called my insurance company and was told they have'nt heard anything about this they just know they were still paying for lapband surgery and they did'nt understand why they would pay for the band and not the fills and that i needed to talk to my dr. which i did and they said they already looked into it . insurance pays for the dr. visits but not the fills. i needed to call the insurance company again. well when they called from the doc.s office to remind me of my app. the following day i told them i was looking into having the band removed i recieve ssi checks once a month and supporting 4 teenagers and a whole lot of bills. i cannot pay for fills. she told me just to go ahead and go in. i did and was not charged. so i'm wondering what the hell is going on . i don't understand why they don't let us know these things before getting this band.
