I need an idea of cost
My insurance covers 90% of cost but I'm wondering how much my portion will be so I can start to save now I can't have them tell me ok we have an open date in 2 weeks then say by the way you have to pay this much first I have to have some kind of idea. My doctors office has told me they aren't sure yet until they send in for authorization then they will know I kind of would like an idea before that by the way I'am having lap rny.
In my research I've found the average price for RNY to be around $20,000. If your insurance pays 90% (where can i get me some of that!!??) then that means youd' pay 10%, so around $2,000 or so. Now, that doesn't include your deductible, max out of pocket and/or lifetime maximum. We'd really need to know more about your insurance before we could safely say how much it's going to cost. You also need to know how much the surgery is going to cost. You can bet the surgeon will charge as much as possible since you have insurance and then let the insurance tell how much they will pay. If you've got a good surgeon they'll work with you on the out of pocket amount. Personally I would save as much as you can. It's always a good idea! In addition to the surgery costs you'll also have pre-op doctor visits, psych tests, and lots of other stuff that the insurance may require in order to approve you.
Chris thank you I have done my psych eval and test and all my dr visists are $5 thank goodness I did have to pay a good chunk for my psych eval and I have met my deductible for the year if what insurance site says is correct I just really would like a figure to put my mind at ease but I guess its one of those things I will have to wait and pray its not gonna be alot.

Your surgeon's office should be able to tell you...here's what I've learned:
Each hospital, insurance, and surgeon vary because each hospital settles on a contracted rate about the cost of the surgery (most of the cost of the surgery is from the hospital -- not the surgeon's fees). The surgeon fees are variable, so the office will be able to tell you what the cost should be beyond coverage.
Call 'em and ask. :)
good luck!
