Healthnet and hospital maddness
I think I know the problem. It sounds like you have an HMO. Check your contracted provider book. Your surgeon must be a member of the medical group or IPA that you signed up for, also the Hospital must be a member of the same group or IPA. I have an HMO as well (Pacificare) I am having to change medical groups so that the Hospital the surgeon works out of and the surgeon medical group match. The surgeon's office will be able to tell you what medical group you need to be in for your HMO. Once you find this out, if you need to change, call your HMO and tell them you wish to change your medical group. Mine is taking one month for the change to take effect. You will want to wait until this change takes effect to make any appointments. Also, you will need to change your primary care doctor and any specialists you see if they are with a different medical group then the new one you sign up with.
I hope this is not too confusing, Good luck with everything.

It may be what the previous poster said or it may be that the hospital is not contracted with the insurance company., either wholly or partially. Sometimes hospitals will contract to do one or more things only and nothng else. The insurance company is probably working out a contract with the hospital, either a one-time only deal for your surgery or they are working on an on-going contract with the hospital.
