New at this...please help
So, I am just now beginning to pursue Gastric bypass surgery and I spoke to my insurance company today (Optimum Choice/United Healthcare HMO). They do cover the surgery but one of the requirements is that I have written documentation of either a six month supervised diet plan or two three month supervised diet plans. The examples she gave were like Weigh****chers or Jenny Craig. How does this work? I did WW like seven years ago but have no documentation of it. I've belonged to Curves for a year, but I'm not sure that counts at all. I do blog and have written documentation in there about my dieting attempts the last six months but none of it was supervised. I really don't want to have to go out and spend money to join something that failed for me before. Is there any advice or suggestions anyone can give me?
Thanks!
Kim
Your insurance company may not accept that from WW seven years ago. Check with your insurance police to see if they pay for a dietarian or nutrition. If they do cover that, make it a point to go every month for 3 at least 3 months straight. Your dietarian will provide you with enough documentation of the supervised diet plan to submit to your insurance company. Curves is great, they (the insurance company) also want to see if you are following a physical plan as well.
My insurance uhc/definity accepted a ww weekly "card" from 4 years ago, amazing that I had it--sometimes it pays to be a packrat. I know that our area ww didn't have any files on me 4 years ago, but you just might want to contact them and see if you get lucky. I would also talk to you PCP and see if they have any records of you going there and mentioning you were on a diet.
Might you have your old checkbook from when you went to WW? Maybe payent would prove you went. Just an idea...
I just need to fight for the vsg I want to have.
