I have a friend in Indiana with a really good insurance plan (works for a university) but she has a written exclusion for any obesity treatment.  She lives in Indiana, should she give up and start saving to pay for it herself or keep trying?

If she has a written exclusion then there is no hope.  I would start looking down other avenues.

She can talk to HR to discuss with them adding it to the insurance at the next cycle.  But I have a friend who works at the hosipital where they do the surgery, who they will not add obesity treatment.  She has tried for about 3 years. She is going to self pay or switch companies. I would suggest your friend start saving

tell her to take a look at the policy and appeal rules.  We had a case with LSU (university) and unknown to everyone their was an exception hidden in their for medical necessity. I would probably look around at that first before you decide it's iron clad
