BCBS of Floirda..HMO Do I have a chance!

I have just begun this journey to get approved for Lap-Band surgery. I have BCBS of Florida which I have called to see if they would cover the surgery if medical necessary and I was told no. I am 56 years old with a BMI 66, I'm 5'1 and 355 pounds. I have high blood pressure, sleep apnea, high cholestrol and depression. I have a family history of heart disease, cancer and diabetes. Does anyone had an experience with BCBS of Florida that they'd like to share. Thanks! Dee

Can you check your policy book to verify that WLS is an exclusion? The people on the phones for BCBS are not very bright. Additionally, they may tell you it's not covered to steer you away- even though it might be. Ask your insurer for a copy of your handbook.
