My wife's work insurance has a written excluision on WLS/Meds.  I am in Ohio. Any advise? Doc told me this morning my sugar is becoming a issue and in 2 months i need to get  checked for diabeties. I also might need surgery for a herniated disk. John Thanks

My husband has UHC and  we did not know until we sent all of my information in for approval that there was an exclusion or a clause put there by his employer. I have two denials and am using my last one to appeal to his employer this week for our last appeal. They are my only hope and most tell me it is not possible but I am going to try. I want to let you know that it was 8 months that the clause was hidden from us. We were told as was the surgeons office that there was no exclusion and that if I met the guidelines that I would be approved. Well it did not happen. Do your homework before you submit your info is the only advice I can give you and get EVERYTHING IN WRITING!!!

I have UHC with an exclusion, as well. I paid out-of-pocket for my RNY and the pre and post op program.

My husband's work also has an exclusion for WLS (and I live in Ohio). The Bariatric Surgeon I talked with said I would need to have my husband talk with the insurance person at his work to determine if a rider can be added (at an additional cost to us) when the insurance is renewed at the end of this year. If so - then United Healthcare will cover the surgery. If not...we have to see if we are able to save up money for this surgery or take out a loan. (which - for me - doesn't look like a possibility at all.) Good luck!

I guess time will tell with what i can do. My doc thinks i might have a herniated disk so with being unemployeed right now,  that is the only issue i can worry about now. Doc told me if i dont lose weight, i am going to have issues with my high sugar from current labs. John

Back problems are difficult to live with. I had a broken vertebra in L4-5 that I had to have fused. I wasn't able to exercise before surgery - and had to wait 1-1/2 years before I was OK-ed to exercise after the surgery. The only kind of exercise I was able to do without back problems was water exercises (not swimming - water walking, water aerobics, etc.). I do hope you get your back issues resolved. FYI - I have friends that live in Mentor & Thompson. It's a nice area.
