I know you can not give me an exact answer but what do you think my chances are of Cigna approving me for WLS, I'm 5'4, 300lbs, bmi 53, I have diabetes, high chol., and have lower back problems (have screws and rods in lower back), just give me a guess. Thanks

Well, just based on that stuff you'd be pretty close to meeting medical necessity.  Even with all of your medical issues and BMI most insurance companies still want a medically supervised diet.  The length of the diet can vary from plan to plan.  There are also little hoops to jump through like a psych eval and nutritional consult. The biggest thing is whether or not you have coverage for WLS.  If you're employer has a specific exclusion then they won't pay for WLS even if it's medically necessary.  This is typically found on self-funded policies (that means your employer is paying for the medical bills and Cigna is just a third party administrator).  If you don't have an exclusion then you'll just need to meet their medical necessity.  Of course, if approved it'll be subject to your out of pocket costs.

Thank you for your replys.  Cigna told me I do have coverage and do need to do the 6 month plan so I have gotten that far but I was just concerned because I have read on heard about people getting denied, I guess I just want to get excited but afraid to.  Thank you again!
