Question on 6 month weight loss attempts
Hoping someone can help me on this one.
My primary doctor in is NJ - but I live in NY (I moved from there a few years back) and I see him once a year for regular physicals. He recommended the WLS a while back. I have done the 6 month diet, etc but because of the distance to travel and the normal kids soccer games, etc on Saturdays - I have not been able to get a 6 month straight "in the medical records" documentation of my weight loss attempts.
I was wondering what the best way to go about this was - would it be better to simply have my PCP send my medical records here and follow up for the six months with a local dr. who can then base his recommendations solely on the medical record history, though he has not personally treated me for years, or - would it be OK to go to a dr here once per month for 6 months and then have that dr send those records to the PCP in NJ and then go visit him for a eval and have him write the recommendation??
I have BCBS of GA so if any one has a recommendation or feedback let me know. Their website does not require that the 6 months be specifically in the medical records wiht monthly weight ins (I previously had Aetna and they were very clear that monthly weighins at the dr were required).
Any input or feedback would really help!!!
Some plans approve people if they just did Weigh****chers, or some program with documented weigh-ins. Most insurance plans specify medically supervised weight loss, which means you need to weigh in with a dr at least once a month. I can't see why it would matter which doctor you see. If you have an HMO the biggest concern would be switching PCP's, so that you can see someone locally for that 6 month diet. Good luck to you The best way to know is to get a copy of your insurance requirements either through your employer or benefits booklet.
