Can someone help me out.....

Trying not to cry, I have United Healthcare - I called United 3 different times at the begining of April to make sure there were no exclusions on my insurance, was told that I had to meet all requirements only, which were over 21; Doctor states Morbib obesity and a 5 year weight history, everyone thing was sent in accept the 5 year history - 2003 I was only 199 lbs not considered morbidly obese.  So I was denied.   I got a call from the Surgeons office from the insurance lady who told me last weeks she will do everything in her power to get an approval - well she said today, sorry sweety but you've been denied and that was it!  I asked her aren't you going to appeal it or something, I put down almost $1000 for the lifestyle classes, nutrional classes, appt. w/Pshy., appt with Surgeon, appt w/there nurse and appt w/a nutrionist and all you can say is your sorry Does anyone have any ideas - has anyone been approve with United Health with only 4years weight history or does anyone have any letters??   Help!

Are you serious?  Because for one year out of 5  you were obese and not morbidly obese they denied you?  That is a crock.  I have UHC and hopefully my request will be sent in this week but I also have one year out of the 5 that I was under 200 lbs.  Did you try submitting more than 5 years worth of history...that is what I have told my surgeons office to do, I gave them 10  years worth of medical history of being morbidly obese with a couple years being obese so I am hoping that this works.

I haven't gotten my deniel letter yet but according to Care Coordination that's what they said.  I've only been morbidly obese 4 out of 5 years (what a bunch of crock!!)  I only had the 5years.  If you have been morbidly obese for over 5 years you should be okay.  I've been Obese but not morbidly so.

Well mine aren't consecutive years....I dieted ALOT and my weight went up and down so it is not 5 years in a row.  I am nervous

Sorry, I have another question, do you have any comorbidities?

Don't give up!  If you have to wait 6 months to apply again in January 2008 then you do it.  We're here for you cheering you on.  Good luck to you!

Contact Walter Lindrom.  I was denied by the insurance and I contact them to retain them as counsel and they stated that there are different programs out there that will pay for the lawyer to represent you so that you can get the surgery! I have them helping me with my appeal and I'm paying nothing out of pocket.  The lap-band company is paying for it.

Where can Walter Lindrom be contacted?  I sent in an appeal and I'm just waiting for the outcome.  How's yours going?
