I've been suffering from depression for 16 years. I'm currently on Zoloft and it is the only thing that works for me. I've tried the generic and is does not work. I think I'd be better off taking tylenol! The problem is, my insurance doesn't want to ay for it. They recently called my doctor about it and he told them that he has documented that generic does not work for me and to only give me Zoloft. Well I also have to mail order my maintenance prescriptions. Today i recieved my medication i the mail and it is 90 days worth of generic zoloft! I could just cry! I really suffer without this mediction! I just can't understand why!?! Has anyone else had this problem? How do I go about appeaing? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! Tonia

Ask your doctor to write you a new prescription indicating Name Brand only....No Substitutions.  That should be enough.   If that doesn't work try to appeal through you insurance.  According to FDA regulations generic prescirptions can vary by up to 30% with the inactive ingredients.  Check the FDAs website, find that documentation, include that in the appeal and say something like.....due to the inconsistencies between the name brand and generic, that you have found the generis to be ineffective compared to the name brand. I had this problem with birth control pills.  I need them to regulate my cycle.  When the switched me go the generic, it threw my cycle all out of wack.  I ended up with my period for 5 months straight.  Afgter several phone calls to the insurance.  I discovered that the presciption must be clean....No Substitutios.  Then and only then would they accept the name brand. Good Luck.

Thank you so much! I didn't eben know where to start. It looks like I will have to appeal. They are being real butts about it! Not only do I have to pay for the name brand that I need they are making me pay for the 90 days they sent to me in the mail. The nurse at my docotrs office called them twice about this telling them no generics. Crazy people!

Thanks!
