Hi all,    I'm pretty new here, but have been researching WLS for the past few years. I found out that my husband's insurance has great coverage, and apparently is the "best" to have in this state for WLS, but I just read the fine print on our coverage and it says a 3 year medically supervised diet must be completed!!   I am not on a medically supervised diet and have never been in the past. I FINALLY got the referral from my PCP and I have to wait three years!! WHAT!   Please tell me there is a loophole for this rule??    I have Blue Cross Blue Shield of Iowa, Alliance Select. Great insruance, but stupid rule!! Thanks!

Actually, no :( I saw a dr. for the first time since childhood in Sept. of 05, and was sent to the hospital for extreme hypertension. But nobody has ever mentioned losing weight, but I know my weight is documented.... Frustrating!

i have never heard anything like that... if i were you i would request my dr to put in for prior authorization anyway with as much information showing the need for the surgery and any weightloss thats been tried in the past... i hope that you find a way around that because that is just unbelievable good luck!
