Update: Tricare denial

I was going to fax the letter Paul suggested but i was told that it was too late for any kind of appeal. They have a 3 month response time limit and I relyied on my PCMs word that he would take care of it. ,,, blah blah blah.. Now everything has to be resubmited to tricare again for approval. What i was missing for an approval was a co-morbidity. My weight was over 100lbs over ideal weight. The only thing different from the first time and this time is that i am takeing Quinapril and Metformin. My PCM explained that those were for hypertension and to help regulate insulin. Hypertension and diabetes are both listes as co-morbidities in the policy and there is no reference to the degree. My PCM said those medications are very mild and I am worried that these conditions are not advanced enough for me to be approved. Can i have oppinions, suggestions, anything? I am really very depressed and i just need to know what my chances are at this. Im tired of thinking and hopeing and being disappointed.

Where are you located?  Is there a military installation near you that does WLS?  If there is (or within driving distance) you can have the surgery w/o Tricare approval if on an installation. Good luck!

Thanks for your advise :D.. i didn't find out about this until i had aready started the process with a non military doctor. Im sure everything would have gone alot smoother if i had gone to an installation. I don't live near one so i'd have to find one, and i will if things don't work out this time.

I was denied by tricare and am going to appeal it, but if that is denied also, I plan on finding a nearby MTF to have the surgery done at.  I found a list of them the other day at http://www.tricare.mil/mtf  when you get to this page you can choose a state from the drop down box and it will give you a list of MTFs in that area, and you can contact them from there.  Hope this helps.  Good luck with everything!
