WLS Exclusions

How do you get around insurance exclusions? My mother is trying to have WLS and her insurance (Aetna) specifically excludes it. Is there anything she can do?

It's very hard.   If it's a self funded plan then federal law applies and there pretty much is no way around it without suing after you appeal and lose.  And even then it's a long shot.  You can ask HR to make an exception, or if they made an exception in the past you might be able to use that against them.  If it's state run, a private plan, then it depends on the State.  Some states don't allow exclusions but most do which is pretty sad. Sometimes on appeal for either type of plan a company gives in, but that is also rare. Good luck
