my job informs me yesterday that we are switching insurances as of may 1st.  my date is may 7th and the new insurance does NOT cover the procedure!!!!!!!!!  i called the doctor to see if we could move me up to sometime this month......no deal.  does anyone know if there is some kind of way i can keep BCBS for an additional month or something along those lines?

You may be allowed to opt for COBRA for the few months with your current insurance provider.  COBRA is normally used by former employees who want to continue medical coverage under the company's plan. If allowed, you will be responsible for the entire premium.  For example, if the entire monthly premium is $300 and you now only pay $25.00 per month that means your company pays the other $275.00.  If you go on COBRA, you will have to pay the entire $300.00. It will be worth it to pay the entire premium for those few months. The only problem is will you company allow you to go on the new insurance plan after those few months? Call your H.R. Dept. for more information.  Better yet, have someone else call for you just in case the calls are recorded.

thanks l~l.....i had thought about this, but i thought that cobra was only available if there is no other insurance available to you because of unemployment.  maybe they can work out something.......i can't believe i'm going thru this.............

Howdy!  You might also try calling Kim at Dr. P's office.  She may have handled this before.  Or send her an e-mail.

What about finding another surgeon? You may want to call your insurance and ask them if you can change surgeon's with the approval you have. Maybe you can be "Granfathered In" I have heard of this before but, I'm not really sure of how to go about doing it or exactly what it is.  Good Luck and don't give up!
