BC/BS Fed - Confusion
My surgeon's office doesn't seem to have their act together. I was told that was is considered a comorbidity in California is not a comorbidity in Hawaii (where I live). I have Federal Blue Cross Blue Shield and while managed locally, is still a national plan. So...just wondering if anyone has any comments/opinions about whether or not comorbidities vary by state, even on a national plan.
My BMI is 39. Identified comorbidities are: hyperlipidemia, impaired fasting glucose, asthma, degenerative joint pain (forgot the technical term) and depression. I also have hypothyroidism. My surgeon's office said 'I don't know if these will fly'. She's hesitant to call my insurace company. I've been waiting for two weeks for her to call and yesterday she said she would. We'll see.
This is so frustrating!
These companies can really break your chops with this stuff. You need to really look at the written policy. Co-morbs usually don't vary, but they do like the big ones, like diabetes, high bp, gerd and sleep apnea. Many times they consider yours in the grey area. So. fight them on it. But read up on the plan first.

I think you should go ahead and call BCBS yourself and have them submit your stuff. I FEP BCBS, they said they will cover everything psy evals and all. Only thing I have to pay is a $100 co-pay. You can go online a read the whole policy. That's what I did prior to calling, it details everything..then I called the number on the back of my card to confirm. Just submit and see what happens...they don't know what they will say..the worst they can say is NO..I don't know why they would hold this up.
