I'm new here, this go around, so any advice is welcomed! My insurance company is BCBS of Illinois. I spoke with them about my policy and they said wls is covered with met criteria. I have to have documented nutritional and exercise therapy for 6 months in the last 12 months. Well, about 27 months ago, I got pregnant with twins and started the Atkins diet (against my dr's wishes) because I wanted the babies to be healthy. At the time my BMI was probably around 39 or 40. During the entire pregnancy, I gained only 5 lbs. I was wondering if I could send in my ob/gyn's records to show weight "loss?" I am unsure whether or not they wrote down anything referring to my weight, other than how much it was at the time. Since the birth of the babies, I lost down to a BMI of 35, but have since regained to a BMI of approximately 44(I'll find out for sure tomorrow at my first documented dr visit. I've tried to get approved with two other insurance companies in the last 4 years, without any luck. I feel as if my weight records should prove to them that I can lose the weight---it's just keeping it off!!!!! Of course, that is my opinion. I need advice on what to do. Currently I have horrible varicose veins, GERD, high blood pressure, at times. I am unsure about sleep apnea, but will inquire about a study tomorrow. (I have to sleep at a 70 degree angle--I feel like I'm suffocating if I lie flat.) If anyone has suggestions, I'm all ears!

Thanks so much!

I don't have a lot of suggestions but I wanted to tell you that I sent in my OBGYN records all the way back from 2001 as my medical records. He wrote me a letter stating we talked about my weight and different things I could do to lose weight. I don't know if that counts for you but it worked for me on my appeal and I'm having surgery 5-9-07  GL keep us posted! Rebecca

I am sure that you went to your OB once a month than more frequently as your pregnancy progressed. Every time you go they document your weight, blood pressure and any problems you may be experiencing. I would definately give it a shot especially if you have a note from your ob.
