My physician's office will be sending in my insurance for surgery approval on 4/4.  It is Anthem PPO.  Anyone have any suggestions on ways to speed up approval?  Should I call the ins. in a week or so and see if they have all my stuff?  I'm sooooooooooooooooo excited.

Some people suggest calling your insurance periodically, my surgeon's office said calling periodically doesn't do any good.  I was approved in a week but I also had documentation of everything they asked for.  I think that is key no matter who your provider is.  Just get your mind busy and it will make the waiting time go by quickly. Good luck.

Every insurance company is different.  When I initially submitted, I called to make sure they had the info-it just made me feel better.  I have heard stories of the submissions getting "lost" and I just really wanted to stay on top of things. Best of luck, LR

Hello. I asked my surgeon's office about sending a CD and they said most insurance companies will just trash them and will scan the documents themselves anyway.  It is a security breach to accept external multimedia that isn't licensed.  Companies do this to protect themselves from computer viruses, trojan horses, etc.  And from someone who works in the computer field, this makes sense. In a similar vein, I asked my ins co if they wanted me to e-mail the pdf of some records they needed and didn't show they had received, and they said that they couldn't accept them as a pdf attachment to an e-mail either.  Both the e-mail and the pdf were a security breach.

I offered to my surgeon's office to copy all my docs (in pdf format) to a CD myself.  A company isn't going to put that CD in a CD drive and then open it because they don't know that a virus or whatever isn't on that CD in addition to a bunch of PDFs.  PDFs are safe.

Interesting.  Can you give me the cite for that HIPPA violation you mentioned? Thanks!
