Hi Everyone, Does anyone know if BCBS Federal approves the VSG surgery.  I have an appointment with a surgeons office on 4-4-07.  The office worker told me over the phone today that she did not believe BCBS Fed would approve this surgery.  She then offered me a choice between Lap-band and RNY.  These two surgeries are not my first or second choices.  I would rather have the VSG or DS.  The surgeon I choose does all of these surgeries.  I believe my insurance will cover the VSG.  Does anyone have info that could help me?

Most Fed plans followed the medicare ruling which said that they would cover the DS, RNY and the LAPBAND. BUT.... make sure you read the policy, you never know.

When I went for my consult last week I was told that most insurance companies consider VSG experimental and my surgeon thought for sure BCBS Fed did. I'm wrestling with them right now trying to pin them down on the definition of comorbidity...grrr! Anyway...I would have liked the VSG but my doc said it would cost me $15K out of pocket...
