BC BS MN diet change from 3 months to 1 year

help.  my surgeon wouldn't send my paperwork in till i had the all day consult.  he is part time and was gone in feb, i am scheduled for may 3rd. i thought i had all my ducks in a row, had done the 3 month supervised diet, etc.  had bc bs send me their requirements today  and a change dated March 13, 2007 shows the supervised diet to be a 1 year requirement vs. 3 months.  i called and she said, yes it changed. can it just change in the middle of a plan year? Our plan has a june 30 year end. the gal at my surgeon's office is out till monday.  im going to wait till then to set up a bunch of nutritionist appts. Any info on this would be greatly appreciated.  Bummed but persevering, Judi

They cannot change the terms of your contract until it expires and renews.  They cannot make changes mid-year and add or remove services.  Nor, can they add restrictions that were not formerlly in place. You should speak with your employer and let them know what is going on.  Filing a complaint with the insurance department may also be in order. Gary

Judi, Gary knows what he is talking about.  Calm down, it will be OK. I am currently on my 3 month diet...and I would die in they said I needed a year!!!  Actually, I would self pay and then go after them for payment.   Anyhow, hang in there!  I have read so many stories of what insurance companies will do to get us to give up!  Do not give up...and soon we can be on the loosers bench together.

thanks lisa, im not going to panic till monday. you are right, (and gary). they shouldn't be able to change it mid year so i just want to get the paperwork in and find out. i really want to keep this surgeon but he only does the consultations once a month and since is part time now he didn't do them in february or april.  thanks for the kind words!! judi
