Hi Everyone, I'm in the process of getting my Tricare approval for surgery in Germany.  I can't seem to find out whether or not they allow the DS or if I have to do RNY?  Does anyone know, I don't want to wait till my tricare appointment to find out if I can help it. Heather

A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort.  Herm Albright

I don't think they approve DS.  I believe it is only RNY.   You can call Tricare to double check, but i believe they are currently only approving RNY.

Tricare only currently covers RNY.  They do not cover the DS because it is still deemed by most insurance companies as being "experimental" and most insurances fear that they will have to pay for complications from DS that are associated with the greater malabsorbtion that occurs with it.  I have attached a link for the Champus/Tricare policies regarding WLS, I hope it answers your questions! -Hope www.va.gov/hac/forbeneficiaries/champva/policymanual/cvapmchap2/1c2s29.15.pdf

Thanks ladies...  I just got home from Tricare and that is the truth.  I guess I'm getting an RNY if they approve it.
