Has anyone been able to get the 6 month diet requirement waived?  I see that one person did (in Gary's topic).  Has anyone tried and been denied?  If you have had the requirement waived please tell us what you did and what you said. Thank you!!

Paul, Thanks so much for responding (sorry for my delay in getting back.  I will send you my e-mail in a second, but as for the first part:  My insurance company is Highmark BCBS PPO.  I have a weight history which goes back to 1982.  I have requested medical records which show my weight back to 1995, but I have only one, short-term meal replacement diet by my PCP in 2003 and an endocrinologist put me on Ionomin in 2001.  My therapist is writing a letter that says that he is convinced I will comply with the post-surgical diet and exercise program, but that th 6 month program may affect my motvation since it is just more of the same for me.  He has been treating me since 1998 and he can attest to many of my attempts at weight loss, we worked on behavior modification and even hypnotherapy.  My psychiatrist who monitors my meds can attest to my weight and struggles with diet and exercise since 2002.  I also have a letter from a health club that I joined for a year in 2003 and the dates I used a personal trainer for 4 months.  I can easily show a lifetime of conventional dieting and exercising, but not anything in the past 4 years.  I can also include photos over the years if you think that would help.  I would like to send you a copy of the letter I intend to send to the insurance company requesting the waiver.  Would you please e-mail me with your e-mail address so I can send you my proposed letter. Thank you so much for helping with this.   The support of people like you is so valuable to us newbies and being morbidly obese is so isolating that it is invaluable to have others *****ally do know what you are going through.  You are truly a gem!
